Nancy Zittrain spent her childhood on the wild and rugged shore of Catalina Island. Exploring the cliffs near her home, observing the abundant wildlife and the sea, Nancy developed a deep appreciation for nature that is evident in her artwork.
Her favorite subjects are wildlife, especially birds, coastal seascapes and nautical scenes. She prefers to use oil for her very detailed realistic artwork; and is fascinated by color combinations, contrasts and textures. Whether it be the brightly colored sails of a catamaran, or the softness of fur and feathers of familiar wildlife, her works evoke a certain deja-vu in the viewer's mind.
Nancy began painting in 1967 and has taken many art classes and workshops through the years, studying under several nationally and internationally known artists. After spending a number of years on the Outer Banks of North Carolina painting the ocean, the coastal marshes, and various sea birds in their habitat, Nancy has relocated to Chesapeake, Virginia to a beautiful protected wildlife area on the inland waterway, where she receives inspiration for her landscapes, marine and wildlife painting.
For years Nancy has participated in art shows, winning many awards for her paintings. Her work is available in galleries and shops in the southeast, as well as directly through the artist.
